Thanks for the link to George Rodrique - an artist new to me. This blue dog was an entry in the kids' art section of the Maple Ridge Fair, in BC. Small world! (The kid who painted that would be interested to know that Rodrigue's paintings start at $22,000.)
The first of Rodrigue's blue dogs was done to illustrate the Cajun legend of the loup-garou - the werewolf.
