Sculpture week 10

Before leaving home I tried out the new light, to see what the shadows would be like -Not bad; bonus was some density in "the forest" -
The light is a clip-on halogen light with a long flexible bit. It gets hot, and needs space around it, as well as being put where people won't brush against it and get scorched -
On the left, the bulb that flickered once and died; on the right, the replacement bulb provided by the shop at half price, once they heard the tale of woe.

Within minutes of arriving at class, I'd drawn out the plan for the "table" that will support the installation - sheets of foamcore extending over a plywood base, on long thin legs -
A sneak peak at the plans for the exhibition spaces, which will be revealed tomorrow -
An afternoon spent making various types of ladders. Unsurprisingly, the simplest is best - 2nd from the right - just spread open the twist of the string and insert a short stick. As long as no-one tries to climb up it, it should last the few days of the exhibition; it will hang off the side of the "table", or at least that's the idea at the moment.
Also some more playing with light and shadow, comparing the effect of lighting from below
and from the side -
Here's another view - sideways on -
I'll have to play around with where the lights will go, as my space will have four walls of various sizes; I'd imagined it being more like a booth than a room. Hmm, another challenge...
