Recently in the studio

Sampling ways of doing the seams on the second "travel blanket". Silk organza - to be cut across the grain in various curves, and overlapped to look like the seams on billowing sails (sort of). Sails use zigzag stitch, and it certainly pulls the fabric out of shape less than straight stitch. Even so, some stabilisation is needed.The iron-on stabiliser left globs of glue on the fabric when it was pulled off, but it can simply be pinned. The seams need to be a certain width in order to get the stabiliser out, and it's better to use the stabiliser across the grain.

With decision made, some seams got done. I pin the fabric to the design board (foamcore covered in domette) before cutting and then pin both sides of the overlapped seam (with stabiliser underneath) before pinning the seam. Otherwise the fabric waves like a story sea!
In the past few days the long weekend has played havoc with my studio hours. So has the sheer fact of starting to put up the exhibition. More of that later...
