"Free" quilts

The challenge at the Australasian Quilt Convention is "free", and you can see the 28 finalists here (click on the thumbnails on the site to see the whole quilt and read about it - a few are shown in the screenshot above).

The quilts are 125cm square and include many different ways of working, techniques - and ideas. Many would fall into the "pictorial" category; others have varying degrees of abstraction. 


The maker of the most abstract of the quilts - the green one in the top row - wrote about making "Flying colours: budgies uncaged" on her blog. It took 140 hours, not counting burying the threads!
