The symbols on the right are used in making "process charts" - respectively they represent operation, inspection, transport, storage, and delay. There is (or was) an entire science.......

"The light should come from the left" - hah, how often is natural light, from any direction, ignored in today's open-plan offices!
Some recommendations, though, have come to pass: "Roll-top desks are a means of perpetuating disorder, and they should not be seen in a modern office."
I love books with illustrations like the office plans. They would make interesting compositions for quilts.
