The unexpectedness of ordinary things

Albrecht Dürer, Six Pillows (1493)   (via)
Dürer's high-quality woodcuts established his reputation across Europe when he was in his 20s. He has a vast body of work - portraits, self-portraits, altarpieces, copper engravings, watercolours, and of course drawings.

  1. I am surprised to find that they had pillows 500 years ago that look exactly like pillows today! Without having studied the subject, I thought that they had more primitive bedding in those days. Guess I was way wrong! What a beautiful drawing.
