Poetry Thursday - Wishes of an Elderly Man by Sir Walter Alexander Raleigh

A professor of English literature, in 1904 Raleigh became the first holder of the Chair of English Literature at Oxford University, but "in his day he was more renowned as a stimulating if informal lecturer than as a critic."

At the outbreak of WWI he turned to the war as his primary subject - and held very strong anti-German views.

He died of typhoid in 1922, aged 60, and is probably best known for  "Wishes of an Elderly Man".
