Studio Saturday

Continuing with the new shapes - cutting the sinamay -
Here's the result of the first batch, stitched by machine (mainly) -
The dress has a "zip" up the back -
One limitation to the size is being able to reach in...
Another limitation is the size of the dipping container. The next experiments will include some two-stage dipping.

Using metallic fabric, and some wire from my collection of unravelled Rioja-bottle wire (what a good excuse to buy wine - "I need the wire") -
Playing with scraps of sinamay -
The state of the studio - the books are information about kilns and firing, as we set up the little kiln -
The shelves have had their coating of batt wash, and the chimney needs attaching. The test firing needs some pots in the kiln, and I don't seem to have any ready, just more and more of the sinamay prototypes -
Those were made this morning; now I'm off to the studio to be productive.

  2. Batt wash was new to me... Also called kiln wash, it helps keep glaze from sticking to the shelves (http://www.bigceramicstore.com/info/ceramics/tips/tip96_kiln_wash.html). Not that I use glazes, but the others might. Replacing a kiln shelf is a tedious business!
