This morning, as I walked north from Victoria Station, there was a clip-clop sound and this carriage appeared -
What's that about?
that became the thundering of hooves, as dozens of horses, some with riders and some without, went along Wigmore Street -
first the brown ones and then the black ones -
dozens of them; each rider had two riderless horses alongside -
What was that about??
Fascinating...I had to look it up.
ReplyDeleteGoogle says: from some forum somewhere - ...called the Water Ride from someone who used to take part.
Then more here:
Every day, at 7.00 a.m., the Watering Order sets off
from Hyde Park Barracks and travels down some of the streets
in central London, in order to provide exercise for horses and riders
(including Band members) not participating in the day's
Queen's Life Guard.
The tradition dates from the time when, in battle,
horses were taken from camp each morning to find water to drink,
before setting off into battle - the Ride takes an hour.
also from the original resource - sometimes they go through Marylebone. and You often see the same sort of thing around St. John's Wood = Royal Horse Artilery.
Good day! I simply want to give a huge thumbs up for the great data you will have right here on this post. I will likely be coming back to your blog for more soon. bovada casino
