Pierre Soulages

Very exciting to discover this French abstract painter. Born in 1919, he's known as "the painter of black".

His big achievement was the 95 windows of the Abbey of Conques. Here are some pages from the book on this (I now wish I'd bought it!)And some of his other work -

Margaret, I have not heard of Pierre Soulages. I love abstract and black paintings. Do you know the name of the book you showed on this post? Thanks! Patty

Sorry, Patty, I can't remember the name of the book. It was in the bookshop at the Royal Beaux Arts museum in Brussels! Several books are listed online, and there's lots of info, including interviews and images, if you do a search on his name.

Here in the UK we don't really know all that much about artists from other European countries...
