Calligrapher Jan Owen uses Hollytek, a translucent synthetic material, in 'Brush Palimpsest', which includes text by Octavio Paz. I'm intrigued by the interaction of the different layers of the text, becoming less readable and more abstract.
She also uses tyvek - for instance to interweave as 'seeds' of the sunflowers (images found here) -
Of her work 'Requiem', written on handmade paper already bound into a codex, she says: "Writing the book was a challenge; the rough pages and folds excluded guidelines and each sheet had different texture and absorbency. It was like working with something, not on it."
