Mythical photographs

Elaine Ling is a Canadian doctor who has worked in remote places and has been to Mongolia five times to travel with and photograph people who live in a traditional way, resulting in a book on Mongolia, Land of the Deer Stone. From the interview here you get a sense that as well as skill in photography she has a gift for being at ease with people.

Of the baobab tree, which she photographed in Mali and South Africa, she says: "I am intrigued by the role that this thousand year old giant plays in the lives of its human neighbours. It is an enduring presence, perhaps older than the legends passed down from generation to generation, its roots deeply intertwined with daily existence."
Do go and look at the others - magnificent.
