The value of contrast

Open Letter, 1958; 58x60cm; image from whereinthewot.blogspot.co.uk
Woven by Annie Albers (1898-1994), this small piece offers lots to look at - counterchange of black and white, gradation of tone, variation of pattern - the interlinking of all those elements acting at once - and, for a resting-place for the eye, a spot or two of colour, seeminglyt randomly placed.
