Sunday broughtthe biennial local event that has crowds of people wearing labels wandering into gardens and houses - the open gardens and studios. For £6 you get your sticker and a cup of tea and a cake at the largest garden, and if you time it right there could be live music.
But before that, on the Friday, we went to the private view at Mary Pritchard's studio - her newly revamped, envy-making studio - where everything was beautifully arranged (I aspire to this!). Her huge photos of old trees are marvellous -the ceramics are beautifully presented, and there are lots of great cards to choose from -
On the day, our first stop was the ceramics studio of Theresa Edwards -
This "pickle dish" came home with me (it reminds me of the pickle dish quilt block - like this one or the one here)
In one of the gardens we loved the way the mattresses, or rather, bedsprings had been used against the fence -
Here they are in context -
June is the month for roses - just look at these climbers right up the side of a house -
June is also the month for marguerites, in this case dipping into the pond -
These modernistic creatures were made of fleece, with hand applique -
Displaying paintings among the plants, why not? -
After four hours of wandering around, we noticed the plaque on this house near the park - Barbara Pym, novelist, lived here -

I suspect those bedsprings would make some wicked rusted fabric!
