Creative sparks fly

The Serbian God of Lightning, Nikola Tesla, in his lab (from here). Tesla has been called "the greatest geek that ever lived" - dunno about that - but his contributions to the design of alternating current electricity supply systems are definitely important to the way we live now. And he did more, much more - read about his "10 inventions" here - related to light, x-rays, laser, robotics, etc.

“We build but to tear down," he said. "Most of our work and resource is squandered. Our onward march is marked by devastation. Everywhere there is an appalling loss of time, effort and life. A cheerless view, but true.”

Before the Silverlink train line was absorbed into London Overground and the train designs changed, one of its locomotives was named Nikola Tesla.
